Women Supporting Women across Gwent

in Other Share this

In this special International Women’s Day blog, we’re shining a spotlight on local women’s community groups. We’ve received support from women’s groups across Gwent over the years and there are many more organisations – from sports clubs, music and craft groups, to women’s networking or community groups – which empower women to achieve together.

A few years ago, Serenata Ladies Choir invited us along to a concert, where we received a donation from their fundraising activities throughout that year. We were so inspired by their beautiful performance and the obvious camaraderie between the choir members (pictured above).

Want to join? They meet at Magor Baptist Church on Tuesday evenings at 7.15 for 7.30 start.

Women’s Institutes from around Gwent have donated over £1000 to Cyfannol by organising ‘Light a Candle Service’ events for White Ribbon Day, as well as donating items to our four offices ranging from toiletries for women to toys and gifts for people we support at Christmas.

There are WIs across Gwent, offering opportunities to meet up, listen to speakers, enjoy activities and support their local community.

If you want to join your local WI, you can find your local group here today.

There are women’s groups across our communities, offering opportunities to:

  • Embrace passions – Joining a local group can help make time for interests – do you have a love of dance or a passion for football? Check out groups in your area to help you reignite your enthusiasm.
  • Extend social setworks – You can meet people from different walks of life who share common interests – whether that’s joining your nearest Women’s Institute or another local networking group.
  • Improve health and fitness – From exploring the countryside with a walking group to joining your local women’s netball or rugby team, doing something physical with others can help to keep you motivated.
  • Take a break – You can take time out from busy routines by engaging in an activity you can enjoy for yourself, alongside others – from running to singing, there’s nothing like teaming up with other women to achieve something together!
  • Learn new skills – Women who attend our creative coffee mornings often tell us they aren’t artistic, then go on to create beautiful crafts! So, why not join a craft group near you or find out about our coffee mornings.
  • Give something back – There are organisations across Gwent that focus on charitable activities, such as Soroptimist International, as well as opportunities to volunteer for local Girl Guides units and other women and girls’ groups.

There are so many opportunities to join women supporting women across Gwent. You can find out about groups in your area by:
