Cyfannol Women’s Aid has been successful in securing ongoing funding for its specialist Sexual Abuse Counselling Service from The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, ensuring we can continue to offer a free counselling service to female and male adult survivors of sexual abuse/sexual violence across Gwent.
This project will sit alongside the existing Independent Sexual Violence Advocacy Service (ISVA), generic counselling and other domestic abuse services offered by Cyfannol Women’s Aid.
The project is staffed by a full-time Counselling Service Co-ordinator and supported by a team of counsellors, who provide professional therapeutic support for survivors of sexual abuse in venues in Pontypool, Abergavenny, Newport and Chepstow. The service has received 180 referrals so far and 30 clients are currently receiving counselling.
This project provides much-needed therapeutic support at a time when increasing numbers of survivors are coming forward and public recognition of the long-term impact of sexual abuse for adult survivors is now widely recognised.
