We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been awarded £20,000 in National Lottery ‘Awards for All’ funding. This will enable us to transform one of our family refuge gardens into a warm and inviting outdoor space.
Through this project, we will be renovating the garden at one of our family refuges. Currently, the garden features two tiers, but only the small patio area is accessible to the women and children residing there.
Our vision for this project is to undertake a comprehensive renovation, ensuring both tiers of the garden are safe and accessible. Our goal is to create an external sanctuary where women and children can enjoy:
This will be a one-off project with continuous future benefits for the women and children we currently support and will support in the future.
Helen Swain, CEO said:
“We’re delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund has awarded us funding to improve this refuge garden. We understand the importance of providing safe and calming spaces for families who have fled abuse, as part of creating a welcoming and homely living environment. Now, thanks to National Lottery players, we will be able to create an outdoor sanctuary for women and children to enjoy for years to come.”
The National Lottery Community Fund recently launched its new strategy, ‘It starts with community’, which will underpin its efforts to distribute at least £4 billion of National Lottery funding by 2030.
As part of this, the funder has four key missions, which are to support communities to come together, be environmentally sustainable, help children and young people thrive and enable people to live healthier lives.
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. Thanks to them, last year The National Lottery Community Fund was able to distribute over half a billion pounds (£615.4 million) of life-changing funding to communities.
