Jayne Bryant MS visits newly transformed Newport Hwb

We are proud to unveil our newly remodelled Newport Hwb drop-in space, made possible by a generous donation from a local technology business. The makeover has created a warm, therapeutic environment where women and families affected by violence and abuse can safely explore their options and begin to make decisions about their future.

To celebrate the transformation, Jayne Bryant, MS for Newport West, visited the Hwb on Stow Hill to see firsthand the impact of the improvements. Her visit highlighted the importance of safe, accessible spaces for those seeking support.

Our Newport Hwb features a dedicated drop-in space for women who have experienced any form of violence against women, domestic abuse, and sexual violence (VAWDASV).

This vital specialist support service offers direct access to:

  • Someone to talk to in confidence
  • Information about how to stay safe
  • Safe accommodation
  • Support to stay at home
  • Dedicated support for children
  • Further specialist VAWDASV support and services

The drop-in space now reflects the calming atmosphere of the Hwb’s garden, which has also been upgraded over recent years – with support from local businesses – to serve as a peaceful outdoor extension of this safe internal space.

Feedback about the new-look Hwb has been overwhelmingly positive, with visitors praising the transformation and describing it as both welcoming and calming.

CEO of Cyfannol Women’s Aid, Helen Swain said:

“Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, our Newport Hwb now truly inspires a sense of safety and dignity for the women who come here seeking support. We see first-hand that – when businesses invest in projects like this – they help to change lives; we hope this encourages other organisations to consider how they can make a lasting impact in their local communities.”

Jayne Bryant MS reflected:

“The Newport Hwb is such an important place for women and families in our community. Having a safe and welcoming space like this can mean everything when people are facing such difficult circumstances. Really good to see the transformation and to meet the dedicated staff who are there every day and do so much to support those who need it most.”
