Our sexual violence counselling service is available to survivors of any form of sexual violence, sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse.

Counselling is a proven way of improving well-being and self-esteem, developing coping mechanisms and reducing harmful behaviours, providing freedom from the damaging effects of sexual abuse and enabling survivors to move on and regain control of their lives.

Taking that first step in telling another person about memories or present events that are troubling you can be very difficult. We appreciate how hard it can be, and our counsellors are trained and experienced in helping survivors through this process.

  • All of our counsellors are BACP or UKPC members.

  • In-person counselling is available in confidential community spaces across Gwent.

  • Online counselling can be delivered via video or live chat, and all sessions are secure and confidential.

  • Other one-to-one therapies are also available, including equine therapy.

How can counselling help you?

Counselling is a way for you to think and talk about how you feel. The counsellors at Horizon can help you deal with your feelings after a sexual assault or rape.

Talking in private with a counsellor can help you:

  • Understand how the experience has affected you

  • Cope with any changes or difficulties resulting from it

  • Adapt to life afterwards

  • Help manage feelings and relationships

  • Enhance well-being and build resilience

A survivor's story
