About Horizon:
Horizon SVS is a specialist project by Cyfannol Women’s Aid, dedicated to empowering survivors of sexual violence.
About the exhibition:
The culmination of collaborative creative workshops designed to explore the phrase, ‘It’s not OK’, the exhibition aims to foster healthy dialogue, encourage open discussions, and bring visibility to a subject that is often hidden. By shedding light on the realities of sexual abuse and violence, Horizon SVS aims to challenge societal norms, dismantle stigma, and ultimately pave the way for healing and change.
The creative workshops provided a safe space for participants to express themselves creatively, offering an alternative avenue for communication and a platform for voices that often remain unheard. The processes and imagery explored symbolise the participants’ journey of healing and transformation. The gilded hands communicate that what happened to them is not ok, the mosaic panels stand for their journey from silence to finding their voice, the gilded and back painted panels express their ‘boundaries’, and the butterflies made with shattered glass highlight the strength and resilience that survivors possess.
Through this collaborative endeavour, Horizon SVS hopes to spark meaningful conversations, cultivate empathy and understanding, and ultimately contribute to the collective effort to end sexual abuse and violence in all its forms.
As visitors engage with the poignant artworks on display, we hope they feel inspired to join the movement towards a world where survivors are supported and voices are heard.
