Helplines Awareness Day

in Other Share this

Thursday 23rd February 2023 is the first annual Helplines Awareness Day.

Helplines play a vital role in supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence, so we’re taking this opportunity to show our appreciation for the national and specialist VAWDASV helplines available to people living in Wales:

Live Fear Free Helpline

The national Live Fear Free can provide confidential help and advice to:

  • anyone experiencing domestic abuse or sexual violence
  • anyone who knows someone who needs help. For example, a friend, family member or colleague
  • practitioners seeking professional advice.

Their fully trained and experienced helpline staff respond to each caller’s needs, helping them to identify ways in which they can access help and support and increase their safety. You can find out more about what to expect at https://www.gov.wales/live-fear-free/about-live-fear-free-helpline

Galop Helpline

The Galop helpline is for LGBT+ people experiencing abuse or violence, such as hate crime, domestic abuse, sexual violence, so-called “conversion therapy” or any other kind of abuse.

Their helpline offers emotional support and information to help individuals explore their options, depending on their needs.

Hourglass Helpline

Hourglass’s confidential helpline service provides information and support to older people, or anyone concerned about an older person, who is at risk of, experiencing or recovering from any form of abuse or neglect.

BAWSO Helpline

BAWSO support people from Black and Ethnic Minority backgrounds who are affected by domestic abuse and other forms of abuse, including Female Genital Mutilation, Forced Marriage, Human Trafficking & Prostitution. Their helpline is available 24 hours a day.
